Our monthly meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm are packed full of interest with demonstrations or talks from top professionals and we have a great line up for this year.

Watercolour once again, this time, ‘realism with a touch of romance’.
Nicky Hunter is a new artist to visit us. She will use traditional watercolour methods in a contemporary and expressive way, aiming to be bold yet beautiful in her approach to flowers.
IT’S CHRISTMAS WITH PETER KEEGAN !! A demonstration and a quiz too. It’s going to be a cracker.
To celebrate Christmas, Peter Keegan will be bringing some Festive Fun to WBAS. He will be painting something seasonal and adding in one of his quizzes too. Come and join the fun.
RUBY LEWIS Our local artist is back to wow us with her spontaneous picture making. I wonder what she will create for us this time?
Ruby Lewis will start our year off in her own imaginative way. Ruby is a local artist, who works in a variety of mediums, drawing on myths, folklore and fairy tales for her inspiration.
Ronnie Ireland and The Glasgow Boys- a group of radical young artists who rebelled against the Victorian passion for highland scenes and story-telling pictures.
Ronnie, a true Scotsman himself, will no doubt have the inside story on The Glasgow Boys. They were a radical group of young artists who grew up in and around Glasgow, rebelling against the accepted art of the time, bringing a much more realistic approach to their paintings.
AGM swiftly followed by Barry Saunders who will lighten things up with an illustrated talk about the Austrian tradition of the Cows Down Festival.
The AGM is a necessary part of running the Society, but we like to keep it brief! Barry Saunders will follow the proceedings and will give an illustrated talk about his holiday to Austria to see the traditional and colourful Cow's Down Festival. WBAS v WCC It’s the annual competition between our great Society and the equally great Watford Camera Club.
This year, we will be guests of the camera club who will be hosting the annual head to head. Rivalry? Yes, of course, but all friendly and great fun. This event will take place at the Watford Quaker Meeting House, 150 Church Road, WD17 4QB.
TONY HINCHLIFFE – A STUDY IN OILS. This long-awaited artist will paint his beautiful portrait called Nothing Less.
Tony Hinchliffe will demonstrate how important it is to connect a portrait to the background and he achieves this, with brilliance, in this summery painting.
MIKE ROLLINS RETURNS which means another fun-fuelled meeting when Mike will be getting out his loyalty cards, palette knives and kitchen roll. ….there may be some acrylic paint involved too!!
Last year's acrylic demonstration saw Mike painting the dramatic Chrysler Building landscape. Using some random items that one may not associate with fine art, Mike wowed us with the method and the outcome. He will be bringing acrylic paint again, together with his lighthearted and informative approach.
PHIL BIGGS returns with his watercolour magic.
To ring the changes, we have a watercolour demonstration from Phil Biggs today. He loves to paint en plein air and describes himself as a traditional landscape watercolourist.
FRANK WOODGATE
The very distinguished lecturer in Art History, Frank Woodgate, joins us again. His illustrated lectures are always detailed and thorough with all of the scandal included!
IAN McMANUS – Ian is an artist specialising in watercolour and this will be his first visit to WBAS.
Ian strives to capture the essence and energy in each of his paintings through lively application of paint, using direct brushwork, without overlays of washes commonly associated with watercolour painting. He believes that this way of working provides each piece with transparency and freedom of expression.
KEITH HORNBLOWER brings us a dynamic and spontaneous watercolour. He believes that light and shade – tonal values – are everything!
Keith is from an architectural background where he used watercolour for illustration, but he feels free to explore the medium to its limits when he paints artistically. His approach is dynamic and spontaneous and promises to be an exciting watch.
